I heard about this on Radio 4 this afternoon. The current government is trying to get rid of that pesky, interfering need to put laws to the Houses to approve. They want the ability to arbitrarily create, amend or abolish laws. Oh, of course they won't abuse it. History shows that people never abuse power. http://www.saveparliament.org.uk/. This really is an attempt to fundamentally remove the need for Parliament - which can be said to be the only thing that can prevent a leader from enacting all sorts of wild legislation.
Digital radio. Embrace it. It's **digital**. It's better quality than analogue. Hurrah. Yay for digital radio.
However, what they don't mention is that it can be worse quality too.
Why do so many people resent paying £121 per year for the BBC? I think it provides amazing value for money - the fact it doesn't have to pander to commercial interests leaves it able to pursue the slightly more alternative programming that makes it different from the rest. The documentaries and comedy that BBC TV have produced, and Radio 4 are definitely worth the money alone. Oh, and the website is fairly good too.
Ever wished you could get a Radio 4 comedy program in OGG or MP3 format, but all they have is streamable Real Audio? Follow these simple instructions, and your wish will be granted.
Dump the stream to a file. (Note - you won't see any output while it is doing this, so you'll need to check the size of the output file to make sure it's working. It will exit when it has finished though.)
